Ghee Clef Studio is a piano and music studio in Houston, Texas. Students learn to hear, sing, move, and play before they read, so reading music feels like putting words to something they already know.
The studio follows a two-stage pathway. It builds a musical ear first and then turns that ear into skilled, independent playing and reading.
Little ones explore beat, pitch, rhythm, singing, movement, and composing together using the Learning Groove Method, and they meet the Piano Safari animal friends they will see again at the piano. It is a playful, pre-piano start that builds the inner sense of music that makes lessons click later.
Private lessons for ages 4 and up use Piano Safari, a method that grows the ear and the eyes side by side. Students learn pieces by ear, read new music, and build solid technique, so they become musicians who can both play what they hear and read what is on the page.
Woven through both stages: music appreciation and music history. Composers, genres, and the cultures behind the music show up in group lessons and in practice materials at every level.
Little Groovers is a one-hour, pre-piano music group for ages 2 to 4. Together we sing, move, play simple instruments, and keep the beat, using songs from the Learning Groove and the animal friends from Piano Safari. Private lesson students are welcome to join too.
Groups meet the first Monday afternoon of each month, starting November 2, 2026. In January we meet on the second Monday instead. A grown-up stays for class with any child not yet in school, and children in PK4 may come on their own. Each group is capped at 8 children, so spots go in the order registrations are paid.
$25 per child, per class. Your child's first class is $20, and each additional sibling is $15.

Piano Explorers are 30-minute private lessons for ages 4 and up, from young beginners to adults, using Piano Safari. Students learn pieces by ear and read new music side by side, with warm-ups, theory, and music history woven into every lesson.
Lessons are taught in the studio or in your home. Current openings are Tuesdays from 3:00 to 4:00 pm, Wednesdays from 3:00 to 4:30 pm, and Sundays from 9:00 to 10:00 am.
$25 per 30-minute lesson, plus a travel fee for in-home lessons.

Students do not just learn notes. They meet the people and places behind the music: who wrote a piece, when and where it was made, and what it was for. A dance, a lullaby, a celebration, a protest, or a quiet song at home all sound different for a reason.
Private students also borrow one book a week from the studio library, read it, and come to their next lesson ready to share a reflection.
Knowing the story helps students play with more feeling, listen more carefully, and connect the music in their lessons to the music in their own families and communities.

Lessons take place at the studio in Houston. The address is shared with enrolled families.
Ms. Ghee comes to you. A travel fee is added based on drive time and is confirmed before lessons begin.
Practice is measured in perfect repetitions, not minutes. After warm-ups, students play each assignment exactly as written three times in a row, then check off a practice unit. That might take three minutes or an hour. The goal is a practice unit on every assignment 5 to 6 days a week, with theory and music appreciation work done in addition.

Ms. Ghee has taught piano for over a decade. She also serves as Core Enrichment District Lead at YES Prep Public Schools, where she oversees elementary music, art, PE, STEM, and library programs.
Ms. Ghee grew up with music and started playing piano in kindergarten. Musical instruments were a priority in her education, from piano, guitar, harp, and ukulele to even a little saxophone. Along the way she fell in love with music history, and she continues to be a patron of the Houston arts community.
Her love of literacy, and the connections between music and literacy skills, shine through in her studio.
